The news today that Juventus have given Maurizio Sarri the sack after just one season in charge hardly comes as a great surprise.
The sacking comes on the back of Juventus' elimination from the 2020 Champions League, despite beating Lyon 2-1 in the return leg in Turin on Friday night.
Sarri led Juventus to their 9th successive Serie A title just a couple of weeks back.
The problem for the former Chelsea manager is that winning Serie A is the minimum expected. Champions League glory is what the club's hierarchy are now looking for.
Even the 9th successive Scudetto wasn't without it's problems. In reality Juventus stumbled to the title, helped no end by the abysmal form of Lazio after the league resumed.
The Juventus sack was inevitable for Maurizio Sarri after Champions League exit
The truth is that Lazio were awful after the resumption. If they had put together any sort of reasonable run, they would most likely be the team currently celebrating winning the league title.
On top of failure in the Champions League was Juventus losing the final of the Coppa Italia to Napoli.
And during the final weeks of Serie A, the players looked exasperated with Sarri at times during the run in. All-in-all, it looked far from a happy ship.
Who is favourite to replace Sarri in Turin?
The favourite to land the Juventus manager's job is Mauricio Pochettino, at just 4/5 with Betfair.
Football is a sport full of ironies. And in true footballing irony, Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi is also one of the names being linked with the job.
The former Italian international is second favourite in the betting at 10/3.
This despite Lazio's implosion at the end of the season.
Third in the betting is Max Allegri at 6/1. The former AC Milan and Juve boss only left the job just over 12 months ago.
Allegri's return would certainly be popular with the Juve fans.
Andrea Pirlo is 10/1, with current Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane at 14/1.
